Education

Entertaining young people is the main focus of Eoin Lynch Puppetry and Storytelling. However, with that said, Education is hugely important to the work. Eoin is an experienced facilitator who has worked with the communities of Dolphins Barn and Fatima Mansions. He is formerly a teacher with The Gaiety School of Acting on the Young People's Musical Theatre Course and regularly works with youth theatres throughout Ireland and in the U.K.

Workshops are facilitated by Eoin and, depending on numbers, one other facilitator. Lasting between forty-five minutes to an hour, these practical workshops have been designed to  focus on three aspects of the participant's development; Fun/Play, Teamwork/Collaboration, and Craft/Creativity.

Craft and Creativity Whether it is using simple recycled materials, or brown (craft) paper, participants learn how to make a puppet and are shown some basic manipulation techniques. The skills needed to manipulate a puppet helps with motor and movement development.

Fun and Play These attributed shine through in the workshops. Once puppets have been crafted and some basic manipulation skills learnt there is a natural progression to play with the puppets. Characters begin to communicate with each other, with scenarios and scene developing. The idea of Play is inherent to making theatre and puppet work, it is also something that young people and children thrive on. The benefits of play are manifold, from building social skills to supporting emotional development, and let’s be honest..it’s fun!

Teamwork and Collaboration This is a progression from the idea of play, where scenarios touched on. The challenge is then for participants, in small groups, to develop an idea into something that might be presented.  These short presentations also help with promoting dramatic play where different themes and scenarios can be explored and discussed.

Workshops can be tailored to suit participants from ages 5 up to 18. Group sizes cannot exceed 30.
